South Florida Preschool PTA

Child Advocacy and Mother's Support Group

President's Message

Hello everyone and welcome to the 18th year of the South Florida Preschool PTA!  Our group is coming of age and is on the move.

I joined the SFPPTA after my daughter, Kelsey, was born three years ago.  We had just relocated from Chicago the year before and my two older children were in school full time.  I felt like a new mom again.  I joined the group looking to get into a playgroup and to make new friends, but I have gained so much more.  In that time I have served as Secretary and last year as Communications Chair and as part of the Membership Committee.  Being on the Board has been a rewarding experience and a great opportunity for personal growth.

Our year traditionally begins with the Open House on September 4.   Gina Hernandez, V.P. of Programming, once again has an interesting panel of speakers scheduled for the General Meetings to help keep us motivated and informed as parents.  Tanyia Pino, our First Vice President of Communications, will be maintaining the master calendar this year.  You can look forward to receiving “What’s Happening” messages from Tanyia to keep you informed of upcoming events and meetings.

We also have a new fundraiser planned for this fall that I hope will be a great success to support our programming and scholarship funds.

I think our greatest resource is our membership. The SFPPTA is made up of intelligent, energetic women who generously give their time and talents.  Without all of you we wouldn’t have all of the wonderful programs and activities to offer.  To that end, we need to continue to grow our membership base and spread the word about the SFPPTA.

I’m looking forward to an exciting year as your President.  We have a great Board lined up and a calendar packed with many activities.   Please feel free to contact me with with any ideas or suggestions you would like to share.  I can be reached at murdochwk@ameritech.net or (305) 794-9500.
