South Florida Preschool PTA

Child Advocacy and Mother's Support Group

Programming 2007-2008

One of the things members look most forward to each meeting is gaining tips on improving our parenting skills.  As you all remember, we had some very knowledgeable, informative and entertaining (some more than others) guest speakers last year.  Dr. Mallet, a favorite of many, has agreed to join us for our October meeting.  For those who missed him last year, he is a psychologist who does family counseling and is a dynamic speaker.  He provided us with very useful discipline techniques in a very funny presentation.  He is delighted to return to offer us even more strategies to handle even the most difficult child!  Then in November, Debbie Hafetz, the Director of the Religious School of Temple Beth David will share her parenting wisdom and insights based on the book, The Blessing of the Skinned Knee. This is an honest and beautifully written book that is based on ancient child rearing principals, yet, it is very current in dealing with issues that are troubling parents today.  This meeting will be empowering.  You won't want to miss it.

This is just a peek at the year ahead.  Members please email me (gherdz@yahoo.com) with anyone that you would like to invite to speak at our meetings and I will do my best to get them on our schedule.  Have a great summer!

    • Our speaker will be Dr. Richard P. Toister, Phd.  Dr. Toister is well known and respected in this community and beyond.  He will share his expertise from his field of adult and child Psychology and present disciplining techniques and strategies to deal with oppositional behavior.  Many of our members asked for us to bring him back for a follow up to last year's presentation and we did.  So, please don't miss this SFPPTA favorite!

  • April 10th, Diana Lee, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
    • Diana Lee will speak on "Caring for Yourself is Caring for Your Child"  Need I say more?

  • May 1, Carol Kaminsky, Movement and Music Therapist

In the early spring we will be hosting a special couples workshop in the evening.  I am coordinating the date and time with two of the South Florida PTA's favorite, dynamic and experienced speakers,  Sue Nichols and Laura Walker.  Sue and Laura will entertain, enlighten and inspire you and your spouse to enjoy parenting.

More details will be provided in the future about each of our programs but for now mark your calendars and invite some other parents that you know.  You won't want to miss any!

Lots of Love to You and Your Children,
